QuickBooks Add-on Update: CNG-Books 2.5
Issue 4.33

Our Cabinet NG and CNG-Books newsletter article in July 2005 regarding Cabinet NG's release of CNG-Books 2.5 and their recent announcement to support QuickBooks 2006 sparked several inquirers from our subscribers. In response, we spent some time with Cabinet NG's President, Andrew Bailey to learn more about their latest release. Below is a summary of the conversation.

In addition to the original QuickBooks add-on product that works with the Cabinet NG document management system, CNG-Books can now integrate with QuickBooks as a standalone product. This provides customers the flexibility to use CNG-Books as a front-end data entry solution without the additional expense of the complete document management system. The standalone configuration of CNG-Books uses the Windows file system to automatically create a folder with the same company name wherever the QuickBooks data is saved. There are also two sub-folders created, one for customers and one for vendors, then sub-folders below that for the individual customers and vendors named by list ID. Any documents saved using the standalone configuration can be easily migrated into the Cabinet NG document management system when a complete document management system in required.

CNG Books 2.5 also adds several new features to the previous version we had tested. Most notably is the ability to attach a scanned document to an existing transaction.

Additional scanning options to add or insert scanned pages are extremely important to those of us with flat bed scanners. There is also now the ability to attach miscellaneous documents to specific customers and vendors (viewable from within QuickBooks when searching from any transaction for that customer or vendor).

As in the previous version, CNG-Books makes it possible to attach scanned documents to bills, credit card charges and customer payments while entering the associated transactions specific data into QuickBooks in one process.

It is clear Cabinet NG's new feature set is targeted towards appealing to a wider audience of QuickBooks user environments. With the announcement of supporting QuickBooks 2006, CNG-Books well positioned to help users when they upgrade their accounting software later this fall.

Cabinet NG continues maximize end user efficiencies for both complete document management needs and those who desire a front end data entry system to integrate with QuickBooks.

CNG-Books is a logical solution as part of a complete document management system and for those users who are looking for a front end data entry alternative.
